Conservative treatment involves correction of the refractive error and the use of prism glasses. Surgical treatment involves strabismus surgeries and botulinum toxin injections.[\/vc_column_text]<h2 style=\"text-align:left;\" class=\"ts-custom-heading \" >Strabismus \u2013 surgical treatment<\/h2>\n[vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Possible indications for surgical treatment of strabismus may be:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Functional \u2013 achieving orthoposition (normal eye alignment in the straight position) and binocular single vision;<\/li>\n<li>Cosmetic \u2013 achieving orthoposition (possible lack of permanent effect in high degree amblyopia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the Eye Surgery Centre in Na\u0142\u0119cz\u00f3w, we perform strabismus surgeries in adults with the use of adjustable sutures. This method reduces the risk of postoperative diplopia, and enables a change in the eyeball position already after the surgery. The first step is a surgery under general anaesthesia, and the second step, on the next morning, is adjustment of sutures under local anaesthesia.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Indications for surgery with adjustable sutures:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>cooperating patient,<\/li>\n<li>reoperations (repeated surgeries in previously operated patients),<\/li>\n<li>strabismus related to muscle restriction (thyroid myopathy, orbital break after scleral buckling),<\/li>\n<li>non-concomitant strabismus (Duane syndrome, paralytic strabismus),<\/li>\n<li>combination of horizontal and vertical strabismus,<\/li>\n<li>high risk of postoperative diplopia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Strabismus surgeries are performed without age limitations, also in patients over 60. The most frequent indications for surgery in this age group are: diplopia related to fourth or sixth nerve palsy, thyroid myopathy, iatrogenic vertical strabismus after cataract surgery, reoperations, large-angle horizontal strabismus.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Contraindications for strabismus surgery are as follows:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>general condition which prevents general anaesthesia,<\/li>\n<li>high risk of anterior segment ischaemia, haematological diseases, cardiovascular system diseases,<\/li>\n<li>high risk of necrotising scleritis &#8211; severe systemic diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>The use of botulinum toxin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Indications for botulinum toxin injections<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>symptomatic phoria (decompensated exophoria or esophoria),<\/li>\n<li>small-angle strabismus \u2013 up to 20 \u0394,<\/li>\n<li>postoperative residual angle or overcorrection,<\/li>\n<li>paralytic strabismus \u2013 sixth nerve palsy, VI,<\/li>\n<li>early phase of thyroid myopathy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Contraindications<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin,<\/li>\n<li>expected lack of effect,<\/li>\n<li>non-cooperating patient,<\/li>\n<li>myasthenia gravis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Course of the procedure<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Injections are performed under local anaesthesia, guided by acoustic electromyograph. The onset of the drug activity is after about 2-3 days; the effect is maintained from about 3 months up to a year or longer. The most frequent side effects of botulinum toxin injections are ptosis, diplopia, vertical deviation, headache. The symptoms usually disappear after 2-6 weeks.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator]<h2 style=\"text-align:left;\" class=\"ts-custom-heading \" >FAQ<\/h2>\n[vc_tta_accordion active_section=&#8221;111&#8243; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What does a basic ophthalmological visit look like and what examinations does it include?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1644268721449-dd2519c0-e524&#8243;][vc_column_text]During a basic ophthalmological visit, the patient&#8217;s ophthalmological history is taken, and the following examinations are conducted: autorefraction, keratometry, intraocular pressure measurement, visual acuity examination, slit lamp examination and fundoscopic examination.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Is it possible to have some specialist examinations during a general visit?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1644692622466-f410aa56-2b54&#8243;][vc_column_text]In most cases, yes.
