Depending on the indications and type of equipment used to conduct the examination, one may speak of a contact and non-contact method of examination.<\/p>\n

Tonometry is of high importance in ophthalmology, since increased intraocular pressure is a risk factor for glaucoma, and should be performed in each patient undergoing an ophthalmological examination. Failure to diagnose glaucoma may lead to degenerative changes in the optic nerve, or even to loss of vision.[\/vc_column_text]
